PE and Sports Premium Grant
What is it all about?
In April 2013, the Government announced new funding of £150 million for physical education (PE) and sport. This funding should be used to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sport provision. Funding will be allocated to all maintained and state-funded schools with primary phase pupils, including: primary, middle, special and non-maintained special schools, academies and pupil referral units from 1st September 2013.
Schools are free to determine how best to use this funding to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sport provision, including increasing participation in PE and sport so that all pupils develop healthy lifestyles and reach the performance levels they are capable of.

Provide high quality teaching and learning | Hiring highly qualified teachers and coaches to work alongside teachers to deliver inspirational PE lessons. Observing high quality PE lessons at other schools where this subject is a strength. Staff to attend training courses to increase sport specific skills. Using links with our cluster schools to provide training for staff. Provide lunch time clubs to increase activity levels and SMSA confidence. |
Promote a healthy and physically active lifestyle | Whole school focus on encouraging healthy eating and making healthy life choices. Linking with our Unicef Rights to provide a healthy and safe school. Opportunities to attend extra-curricular clubs. All children to take part in the daily mile at some point in the school day as well as 2 hours of PE on the curriculum every week. This should maximise the potential of PE and school sport to improve children’s performance in the classroom as well as their physical, social and emotional wellbeing. |
Increase opportunities to take part in sport | Provide a variety of extra-curricular and lunch time clubs. Through high quality PE lessons children will experience a wide range of sports and activities. Encourage participation in community clubs by increasing links to coaches and local events. |
