Philosophy for Children by the children
Today we held our first Philosophy for Children (P4C) session. These sessions give us a chance to develop our thinking skills and realise that there can be more than one correct answer to a question. The stimulus for this session was a photo of a pit pony working down the mine long ago. We had some independent thinking time, then split into groups to come up with a question to discuss related to the picture. We decided to talk about what it would be like if pit ponies still worked down the mines. This led to an interesting conversation about whether the ponies were happy and well looked after whilst they worked there, as the pit pony in the photo looked quite sad. We also discussed that pit ponies made the job easier for the grown ups and children who had to work down the mines because they were strong and could pull more coal, this meant families could earn more money.
What do you think it would be like if pit ponies still worked down in coal mines?
