This year in Science the children have learnt: In EYFS the children have carried out lots of fun and exciting experiments like an ice glove experiment, a crazy soap enquiry type investigation ( Class 8 have made a book) , floating and sinking and the children went on a walk around the school grounds looking for signs of spring. In Year 1 the children have made some lovely floor books which the children enjoyed making. One of them was linked to our London topic helping Paddington to wear a suitable jacket to keep him dry. The other one was linked with R.E making Challah bread. We introduced one of the 5 types of enquiry 'Observing over time' by observing how the yeast in bread helps it to rise. The children also loved watching their sunflowers grow and made a weekly diary to show how the plant had changed. We have loved doing artwork linked to our season tree, which we refer to on a regular basis. They also made posters for each season to show how it changes and the words associated with them. In Year 2 the children have experimented with objects made from different materials and tested them to see if they can be changed by squashing, bending, twisting and stretching. Each class has made a floor book to describe how plants absorb water. The children carried out a carnation experiment to find out how plants drink. They are currently observing how seeds and bulbs grow into mature plants.
