We always have fantastic links with St Leonard's church every year which the children thoroughly enjoy. The whole school walked to Church for a Christingle service led by Vicar Barbara where the children sang songs and listened and became involved with the Christmas story. We also had a fantastic Easter assembly on April 10th led by Tracey. It included the Easter story and a short film about the Miracles of Jesus. The church kindly donated a book called "Three friends and the Miracle man" for every child in school to take home. The children thoroughly enjoyed it and were heard whispering "That was a brilliant assembly!" as they were leaving the hall so thank you very much. EYFS children have been learning all about different festivals Diwali and Chinese New Year. We have learnt all about the celebrations, how they are celebrated and why they are celebrated. For CNY they tasted different Chinese food and wrote about which food we liked the best and why. In Literacy they created fact sheets about the celebration. In Expressive Arts they made their own Chinese Lanterns and used paints to create blossom tree pictures. Some children also had a fantastic dragon dance outside in the play area using the musical instruments which scared away all the evil spirits! For the Hindu celebration of Diwali, the festival of light the chilldren watched a video clip about Diwali as a stimulus for writing lists about the festival in their Literacy learning. They then enjoyed making diva lamps out of clay to develop their fine motor skills. In Maths learning they created rangoli patterns using coloured sand and pastels. The Year 1 children have been learning about the festival of Shabbat and different moral stories. They have been using drama to act out these stories. The Year 2 children have been learning about the leader of Sikhism Guru Nanak.
