This year in Art the children have learnt a variety of skills: In EYFS the children have used their colour mixing skills to paint a variety of different objects and people, including themselves. Watercolours and pastels were used when undertaking observational art of spring flowers. On a trip to Coinsbrough castle children used sketching pencils to draw different aspects of the castle. They also experimented with different textures when creating collages of dragons and farm animals. In Year 1 the children have looked at shape, pattern and texture when creating bear faces, inspired by Andy Warhol. They then went on to look at similarities and differences between their art work and that of an artist. Designers of toys and craft makers were discussed which lead to the children sketching toys from the Victorian era. Children experimented with colour when using watercolours to paint a variety of flowers. In Year 2 the children have used marbling and a variety of collage materials to create planets and aliens. They have done observational art work on the topic of coal mining, utilising scenes from that era. Shape and form was then discussed and used in the sketching of dinosaurs. On the laptops children used purple mash to create effects using the paint tools and applied these to a variety of objects.
